May 17 – Holly’s Birthday (53!)
Up and at ’em. What a drive to the hospital it was (lost, found, lost, found), only to get to the parking lot and find that there is no parking and everyone is out for themselves. Good thing we left early because parking took 30 minutes and finding our wonderful HSCT coordinators (Yana and Ira) took another 30. But, we found them and were swiftly escorted to Prof. Jacob Rowe’s office.
Our initial greet and meet was very inspiring. Prof. Rowe, a very gentle, kind and dedicated doctor, assured us that we were in good hands and that in the end we will become good friends and even learn some Hebrew. I have been trying. Apps are downloaded – :).
After a brief exam and blood draw, we were handed a bag of prefilled syringes full of hormones to stimulate stem cell production; we were on our way. Michael was instructed to give himself two shots a day (morning and night) and to come back on the 18th for lung and heart tests. We will meet with Yana and Ira in the am.
Homeward bound; lost again. I will get this city; I promise! Our hosts reminded me not to get lost and get into territories that were not friendly. I am very careful!
The area we are in is full of stores and shops with a wonderful market larger than Pike Place. I strolled around and picked up lovely items to make for my birthday dinner and a recommended bottle of wine. It was lovely; minus the pasta choice I made. Oh, that was dinner. We snacked on nuts and apricots as well as olives for Holly.
